1 Killed In 2-Car Crash In Pawling
The sheriff's office said the primary factor in the crash appears to be the failure to yield the right-of-way.
PAWLING, NY — A Dover Plains man was killed in a two-car crash on Route 22 in the village of Pawling Tuesday.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 12:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2020 GMC Terrain driven by Robert Tompkins, 74, of Dover Plains, was traveling north on Route 22 when it struck a 2010 Jeep Cherokee making a left turn from Reservoir Road onto Route 22.

Authorities said Tompkins was later pronounced dead at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. The driver of the Jeep was taken to Vassar Brother Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Both drivers were the only people in their vehicles.

While the investigation is continuing, at this time, the sheriff’s office said the primary factor in the crash appears to be the failure to yield the right-of-way on the part of the GMC.
If anyone was in the area of Route 22/Reservoir Road in Pawling around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and thinks they may have witnessed the crash or events leading up to it, they are urged to call Detective Wilber at 845-486-3826 or email him.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner, the New York State Police, the Town of Pawling Fire Department and Empress Ambulance Service.
