1 Teen Hospitalized, 1 Teen Arrested After Early Morning Shooting After House Party

The victim was nowhere to be found, but around 50 partygoers were seen leaving after the gun violence, according to Town of Newburgh police.

TOWN OF NEWBURGH, NY — A party with underage kids turned violent in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

The Town of Newburgh Police Department says that around 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, officers went to a home on Carter Avenue after receiving a report of shots fired.

Once at the scene, police did not find a victim, but did find around 50 people leaving the area after a party.

Soon after, a 17-year-old boy arrived at Montefiore St. Luke's Hospital Newburgh campus with a gunshot wound. Police say he had surgery and is currently in stable condition.

While the shooting investigation was taking place, Town of Newburgh police, with the assistance of New York State Police and the Orange County Sheriff's Office, arrested 18-year-old Keiyi S. Bascus, of New Windsor.

Bascus was arraigned in the Village of Maybrook Court for felony second-degree burglary (dwelling), felony third-degree burglary, felony second-degree attempted burglary (dwelling), and misdemeanor fourth-degree attempted grand larceny (vehicle).

He was released on his own recognizance. The Orange County District Attorney's had requested $50,000 bail.

Town of Newburgh police thanked the New York State Police and the Orange County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.

"The Town of Newburgh Police will continue to work for the safety of our residents and ensure that anyone who contributed to or participated in these violent acts will be arrested and held accountable for their actions," police posted on social media.
