13-Year-Old Arrested In Connection To Shooting Death Of 11-Year-Old

The City of Newburgh Police Department said that the 13-year-old suspect was not a family member of the victim.

CITY OF NEWBURGH, NY — Police say they have arrested a 13-year-old in connection to the shooting death of an 11-year-old in Newburgh.

On Wednesday, at 8:17 a.m., just as the school day was starting, City of Newburgh police responded to a shooting at a North Miller Street home. Officers at the scene located a victim inside the residence who had died from a gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified as an 11-year-old boy.

The City of Newburgh Police Department Detective Division and the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force led the initial investigation. A firearm was recovered, and three juveniles of interest were identified and located by police.

The coordinated response of the City of Newburgh Police Department, the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force, and partner agencies resulted in an arrest within 12 hours of the incident, according to authorities. A 13-year-old boy, who police said was not related to the victim, was arrested on the charge of second-degree murder.
