13-Year-Old Arrested In Investigation Into Melee At McDonald's

ELLENVILLE, NY — A melee at a fast food restaurant has led to another teen being arrested, according to officials.

The Ellenville Police Department says that the last juvenile wanted in connection to the McDonald's incident that took place earlier this month, was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

The 13-year-old was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct. He was released to the custody of a parent and was issued an appearance ticket for Ulster County Family Court on Dec. 3.

On Nov. 7, around 3 p.m., officers responded to the McDonald's located on Route 209, in the Village of Ellenville, after receiving a report about the presence of a group of juveniles who had previously been banned from the property.

After police told them to leave the property, they initially complied.

However, a 14-year-old boy returned a few minutes later and started yelling at the officers and challenged them to a fight. As police approached him, he spat in an officer's face, and pushed one of the other officers. While officers tried to take him into custody, the teen physically resisted.

While this was taking place, several other juveniles surrounded the officers and tried to pull the 14-year-old away from the officers who were trying to take him in to custody. In addition, other juveniles interfered with police and refused to get away from them.

During the struggle, an officer's body camera was knocked off him and taken by one of the juveniles, according to cops.

Police were finally able to get the 14-year-old under control and in custody. Additional units were able to disperse the crowd.

The 14-year-old was taken to Ellenville Police Department headquarters where he was processed and charged with resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, disorderly conduct and trespassing. He was issued a family court appearance ticket and released to the custody of his mother.

After reviewing footage from video surveillance and body cams, police were able to identify all juveniles involved in the incident.

Police say that over the past week, five other juveniles, ranging in age from 14 to 18, were arrested and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and disorderly conduct. They were issued family court appearance tickets and released to the custody of their parents. In addition, Child Protective Services was notified, the department said.
