17-Teen-Year-Old Electrocuted In 'Mikvah' Ritual Cleansing Pool Accident
The Ulster County teenager was ultimately taken to Westchester Medical Center after being removed from the water.
TOWN OF ROCHESTER, NY — A tragic accident involving a "pool of living waters," that is used as part of a cleansing ritual in Judaism, left a teen clinging to life, according to state police.
On Wednesday, around 8:15 p.m., troopers from Ellenville responded to a report of an unconscious person on Ridgeview Road in the Town of Rochester.
Police say a 17-year-old victim entered a large tank of water, referred to as a Mikvah, and grabbed a handheld pool heater, resulting in electrocution and loss of consciousness.

The victim was retrieved from the water, and received life-saving measures by EMS at the scene. The victim was ultimately transported to Westchester Medical Center.
New York State police said the investigation is ongoing. No other information about the victim's condition was provided.
