2 Burglars Hit A Home, Then 1 Suspect Attacked A Homeowner: Police

Police say the items stolen from the home were discarded by the suspects, but were found by East Fishkill K9 during a search.

EAST FISHKILL, NY — A pair of accused burglars were arrested in a strange larceny case in Dutchess County, according to police.

The Town of East Fishkill Police Department says that on Thursday, around 7:44 p.m., officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Railroad Avenue.

Once on the scene, officers report that two suspects had unlawfully entered a home and stolen several items. Police say that as a man and woman fled the scene, the woman assaulted a homeowner nearby. The homeowner declined medical attention.

After an investigation, East Fishkill Police Department officers and detectives located and arrested the suspects, who were identified as Casey L. Cassell and Gregory W. Chiacchia, both of East Fishkill, police said.

They were both arraigned at the East Fishkill Justice Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail on several charges, including second-degree burglary, fourth-degree conspiracy, fourth-degree larceny, and other offenses.
