2 Charged In Hulme Park Shooting In Poughkeepsie: PD

The shooting at the crowded park Sunday injured a 37-year-old Newburgh resident, according to police.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Police have arrested two men for a shooting Sunday at Hulme Park which injured one man and prompted hundreds of people to flee the crowded park in panic.

Police Det. Lt. Sean McCarthy said the shooting happened around 7:05 p.m. at the 72 Market St. park.

Police received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired. The park was crowded due to a basketball game, with numerous players and spectators present, according to police.

When police arrived, they found a 37-year-old man, a Newburgh resident, suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Investigators do not believe the man was the intended target, police said.

Police got descriptions of the suspects and within minutes, police saw two people matching the descriptions on Rinaldi Boulevard, according to police.

When police approached them, the two men fled on foot, but police caught them after a brief chase.

Police identified the men as Anthony Guillen, 31, of Poughkeepsie, and Charles Clayton Jr., 29, of Pleasant Valley.

Guillen had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to police.

Police said they recovered two handguns when they arrested the suspects.

Both men were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. They were arraigned in City Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
