2 NYC Men Accused Of Having Illegal Drugs On I-87

Police said they found the drugs in a hidden compartment in their Mercedes Benz.

PLATTEKILL, NY — Two New Yorkers were accused of having illegal drugs stowed away in a hidden compartment in their Mercedes Benz.

The New York State Police said, around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, troopers from the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit were on Interstate 87 in the town of Plattekill when they said they saw a 2008 Mercedes Benz-ML55 traveling north that was in violation of state traffic law.

The car was stopped and the driver was identified as Jonathan Persaud, 36, of Jamaica. His passenger was Anthony Henry, 39, of Queens.

While talking with the troopers, Henry identified himself by another name and date of birth, police said.

Troopers were granted permission to search the vehicle, according to authorities, and with the assistance of K-9 Kell, they said they found 32 grams of cocaine in a hidden compartment in the vehicle.

Both men were charged with:

  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, intent to sell, a felony
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony

Henry was additionally charged with second-degree criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor,

They were arraigned in the Plattekill Town Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail.
