3 Accused Of Having, Selling Illegal Drugs In Liberty

Police said they found more than 3 pounds of pot, 15 grams of cocaine and more than $6,500 in cash in the trio's vehicle.

LIBERTY, NY — A traffic stop in Sullivan County yielded accusations of selling illegal drugs for two upstate men and a juvenile.

The New York State Police said, shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, troopers from the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit stopped a 2006 Honda Accord on Route 17 westbound in the town of Liberty for several traffic violations.

Police said the driver was Nicholas P. Macnaughton, 22, of Syracuse. The front seat passenger and owner of the car was Jack M. Alt, 21, of Baldwinsville, Onondaga County. There was a juvenile passenger in the back seat.

While talking to the troopers, Macnaughton admitted having more than a pound of marijuana in the car, police said.

A search of the Honda yielded 15 grams of cocaine in a safe in the trunk, 3.54 pounds of marijuana in the back seat and trunk and about $6,500 in cash, according to authorities.

All three people were arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, intent to sell, both felonies.

Police said the juvenile was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Alt was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of cannabis, a felony.

Macnaughton and Alt were arraigned in the Town of Fallsburg Court and released on their own recognizance to return June 6 to the Town of Liberty Court.

The juvenile was issued a family court appearance ticket for Thursday at Sullivan County Family Court.
