ELLENVILLE, NY — A group of teens were behind a violent, targeted attack in Ulster County, according to authorities.

The Village of Ellenville Police Department says that officers responded to a Mill Street address around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, after receiving a report of an assault in progress with weapons.

At the scene, officers found two victims, a man and a woman, who had injuries from a baseball bat, a knife, and being pistol-whipped. The suspects had fled just before police arrived.

Investigators said there had been an argument between the male victim and one of the suspects earlier that evening. That suspect left but then returned later with three other suspects to confront the victim, cops said. The suspects were armed with a baseball bat, knives, and a handgun, according to police.

"This was not a random attack," Chief Philip Mattracion said. "The victims were clearly sought out and assaulted by these subjects who were armed. We have identified all the suspects who range in age from 14 to 19 that were involved in this case, and it is believed that they will be in custody shortly."

Police say that the suspects found the intended victim and "attacked him viciously." When the victim's girlfriend came to his aid, she was also attacked by the same group, authorities said.

The victims were taken by the Ellenville Rescue Squad to Ellenville Regional Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries, which were all non-life-threatening.

Police recovered video of the incident, as well as one of the weapons used in the attack.

Ellenville police were assisted by the New York State Police in Wawarsing.
