72-Year-Old Semi-Truck Driver Arrested In Hit-And-Run Case: Sheriff
A Freightliner semi-truck struck a 20-year-old Ellenville man, who received serious injuries as a result of the accident, authorities said.

TOWN OF WAWARSING, NY — Ulster County Sheriff's Office detectives say that a 72-year-old Ferndale man was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident after striking a pedestrian.
On March 12, around 9:50 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on State Route 209, in the Town of Wawarsing.
An initial investigation found that a southbound Freightliner semi-truck struck a 20-year-old Ellenville man, who sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident. He was taken to Garnet Medical Center for treatment, by the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad.

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.
After further investigation, detectives identified the driver as John A. Mansfield, and located the semi-truck.

On March 26, Mansfield was arrested and charged with felony leaving the scene of a personal injury accident resulting in serious physical injury and felony tampering with physical evidence.
He was processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Wawarsing Justice Court on a future date and time.
The Ulster County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the New York State Police, the Village of Ellenville Police Department, the Town of Fallsburg Police Department, the Village of Liberty Police Department, the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad, and the Napanoch Fire Department.
