74-Year-Old Driver Struck New Windsor Officer At Crash Site: Police

New Windsor police are asking anyone who may have seen the incident to call with information.

NEW WINDSOR, NY — Police identified the driver of the car that struck a New Windsor police officer who was directing traffic around a crash site Sunday.

The New Windsor Police Department said the driver was ID’d as Claudia Rudin, 74, of New Windsor.

Police Officer Maria Schettini was on duty at a crash site on Little Britain Road in the area of Executive Drive Sunday in New Windsor.

Schettini was directing traffic when she was hit by Rudin’s car, police said.

Rudin left the scene of the accident and was stopped by officers more than a mile away, according to authorities.

Schettini was taken by New Windsor Emergency Medical Service Ambulance to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh for treatment. She was admitted to the hospital and remains in stable condition.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.
