80-Year-Old Wingdale Resident Killed In 2-Vehicle Crash

The crash occurred on Route 55 in the hamlet of Wingdale Tuesday morning.

WINGDALE, NY — An 80-year-old Dutchess County resident was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday in the town of Dover.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred on Route 55 in the hamlet of Wingdale around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday.

A preliminary investigation found that Valerie G. Parsons, 80, of Wingdale, was driving a 2011 Mazda3 sedan and was entering Route 55 from a private driveway when she was struck by a 2015 Kenworth truck traveling east on Route 55.

As a result of the crash, Parsons suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said, at this time, the primary factor in the crash appears to be a failure to yield the right of way on the part of the Mazda.

The investigation is continuing by members of the sheriff’s office Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner and the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company.
