84-Year-Old Stabbed 62-Year-Old To Death At Assisted Living Facility: NYSP

PORT JERVIS, NY — There was a tragic ending to an unexpected set of circumstances in an unlikely location late Saturday night.

The New York State Police say that on Saturday, at 11:39 p.m., troopers from the Greenville barracks, along with Town of Deerpark Police Department officers, responded to an assisted living facility, The Sentinel of Port Jervis, on the Greenville Turnpike, after receiving a report of an assault.

Deerpark officers arrived first on the scene and found the victim, identified as 62-year-old Patricia Winters, of Port Jervis, dead inside a bedroom with a stab wound.

Police say that the suspect, 84-year-old James Annear, of Port Jervis, was also found inside the bedroom, with apparent self-inflicted stab wounds.

Investigators say Annear and Winters had been involved in an argument that turned physical, leading up to the violent killing.

Annear received medical treatment at the scene and was taken to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition. He remains in the custody of state police and will be charged with felony second-degree murder and arraigned, when his medical condition allows for it, according to state police, who say the investigation is ongoing.
