Abuser Gets 9 Years In Orange County 2016 Child Rape Case: DA
The now 27-year-old Middletown man previously pleaded guilty to the first-degree rape of a child under the age of 13.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — An Orange County man who sexually abused a child nearly a decade ago will go to prison.
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that 27-year-old Eusten Coppin, of Middletown, was sentenced on Monday to nine years in prison, to be followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, in relation to his previous guilty plea to first-degree rape. He will also be required to be registered as a sex offender under the New York Sex Offender Registration Act.
At sentencing, prosecutors recommended that Coppin be sentenced to 12 years in prison, to be followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.

During plea proceedings, Coppin admitted that on June 30, 2016, he was 18 years old or more and engaged in sexual intercourse with a person who was less than 13 years old.
DA Hoovler thanked the City of Middletown Police Department for their investigation which led to the arrest of Coppin.

"Those who victimize children deserve the harshest punishment," Hoovler said. "The lengthy prison sentence imposed in this case signifies the seriousness of the defendant's admitted conduct. While cases such as this one are challenging for the victims and for the law enforcement officers tasked with investigating the crimes, we nonetheless remain committed to pursue accountability for these dangerous offenders."
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant DA Michael Purcell.
