RHINEBECK, NY — Items made from endangered animals were found at an antique sale in Dutchess County.

Department of Environmental Conservation police, while attending Barn Star’s Antiques at Rhinebeck at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds May 27, discovered numerous items made from parts of endangered animals that are illegal to sell in New York.

The officers seized dozens of items made from endangered sea turtles and elephant ivory — valued at more than $100,000 — from seven different vendors.

Five notices of violation and two tickets to the companies and individuals selling the items were issued by the officers.
