Arson Charge Lodged Against Spring Valley Teen: Police

Police claim an 18-year-old set two local fires this year.

SPRING VALLEY, NY — A local teen is accused of setting fire to a residential building that was under construction, police said.

On Monday, police arrested Carlos De Leon-Cordero, 18, of Spring Valley, and charged him with fourth-degree arson.

Police claim De Leon-Cordero set the fire on Feb. 13 at about 7:30 a.m. at 22 Memorial Park Drive.

When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found an active fire with heavy smoke at that address, officials said. The Spring Valley Fire Department extinguished the fire, and there were no injuries, police said.

According to police, they previously arrested De Leon-Cordero in January, accusing him of setting a fire in an abandoned building at 103 North Madison Ave.

The two locations are within blocks of each other, police said.

Even though an arrest has been made, police are asking for the public to reach out if they have any information on the two fires.
