Arson Suspect Arrested After Fire In Ramada Hotel Room: Police

The Newburgh man was charged with arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment after being treated for smoke exposure, police said.

TOWN OF NEWBURGH, NY — An Orange County man has been arrested for arson in connection to a terrifying hotel fire.

The Town of Newburgh Police Department says that on July 24, around 11:35 a.m., officers responded to the Ramada Inn on Rt. 300 after receiving a 911 hang-up.

Once at the scene, police found a ground-level room filled with smoke and containing an active fire.

Officers removed 48-year-old Jason Conn, of Newburgh, from the room, and he was taken to Montefiore St. Luke's Hospital for smoke exposure.

After an investigation, Conn was arrested for felony second-degree arson, felony second-degree criminal mischief, and felony first-degree reckless endangerment.

Conn was arraigned on July 25, remanded to the custody of the Orange County Sheriff's Office, and was held without bail.
