Climb Out of the Darkness Event Held in Poughkeepsie

The June 18 event will raise awareness for maternal mental illnesses.

On June 18, 2016 Climb Out of the Darkness will be taking place in on the Dutchess County Rail Trail in Poughkeepsie, NY. Climb Out of the Darkness® is the world’s largest event raising awareness for maternal mental illnesses like postpartum depression. The event is held on or near the longest day of the year annually to help shine the most light on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. It features mothers along with their family and friends  joining together to climb mountains and hike trails to represent their symbolic rise out of the darkness of maternal mental illness and into the light of hope and recovery.

Team New York Poughkeepsie consists of nineteen members and has risen just over $1500. Two of the team members are survivors of Postpartum Depression themselves. We walk because one in seven women will suffer from a maternal mood disorder, only fifteen percent of women seek help. We hope that by walking we can help women recognize the signs and seek help. PostpartumProgress.org is considered the leading site and non-profit organization focused on postpartum depression and has been covered extensively in the media.
