Dog Attacks Child, Adult, Trooper, EMS: New York State Police

The 8-year-old was bitten in the head and neck, police said.

HIGH FALLS, NY — A state trooper shot and killed a 2-year-old pit bull Saturday when it attacked police and EMTs responding to a report of a dog attack in High Falls, New York State police said.

Police were called at 6 p.m. to a residence on Kyserike Road in High Falls, Ulster County for two people injured by a dog. When EMS personal and a trooper arrived, the dog attacked them, police said.

The trooper shot the dog as it presented a threat to everyone at the scene, the NYSP said.

A preliminary investigation revealed the 2-year-old pit bull had attacked an 8-year-old girl and a 39-year-old woman. The child suffered head and neck injuries. The adult suffered serious injuries to her right hand, police said.

Both victims were transported to Westchester Medical Center via helicopter. The 8-year-old is listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
