Driver Arrested In Fatal Hit-And-Run: New York State Police

A pedestrian died after she was hit by a Toyota, knocked into the opposite lane, and then run over by a Subaru Forrester.

ROSENDALE, NY — An arrest has been made in the fatal Jan 16. hit-and-run.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at Kingston said that 34-year-old Alex B. Brown, of New Paltz, was arrested on Friday, in connection to the incident last week.

An investigation found that on Jan. 16, around 8:19 p.m., a 2013 Toyota driven by 74-year-old Brenda Fisher, of Kingston, was traveling north on Route 32 in Rosendale, when a pedestrian, identified as 37-year-old Victoria Cooper, of Kingston, entered the roadway and was struck by the Toyota.

Upon impact, Cooper was knocked into the southbound lane, where she was then run over by a 2008 Subaru Forrester, driven by Brown, who then fled the scene.

Fisher remained at the scene and contacted police.

EMS administered life-saving measures, but Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brown was arrested and charged with felony operator leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and misdemeanor third degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle for driving with a revoked license.

He was arraigned in the Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part where he was remanded to the Ulster County Jail with bail set at $5,000 cash, $10,000 bond. Brown is scheduled to appear in the Town of Rosendale Court on January 22.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and the City of Kingston Police Department.
