Explosions, Fire At Orchid Nursery In Orange County

One person was hospitalized.

BULLVILLE, NY — One person was badly burned in explosions and a massive fire at United Orchids in Bullville Thursday night.

The huge fire shook nearby homes and brought firefighters from across Ulster and Orange counties to help the Bullville Fire Company.

High winds kept a Medivac helicopter from the scene, according to Orange and Rockland Fire on Facebook. Bullville Fire Chief Bill Bacon told Mid Hudson News the victim was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

United Orchids Inc specializes in the growth and development of Phalaenopsis orchids. It was established in 1999. The state Department of Environmental Conservation was called in due to the large amount of fertilizer at the property at 2488 State Rt 17K, Mid Hudson News reported.
