Fiery Crash As Hyndai Rear-ends School Bus on I-84

The bus was carrying students from Minisink Valley High School's volleyball team following a match.

WALKILL, NY — A fiery crash involving a school bus and a Hyundai caused no injuries Tuesday night but brought out firefighters from two departments to extinguish it.

At about 9:08 p.m., New York State police responded to a report of a collision involving a Minisink Valley School bus and a Hyundai Elantra on Interstate 84 near mile marker 23.9 in Wallkill.

Shortly after troopers arrived, both the car and school bus became fully engulfed in flames.

All occupants of both vehicles were safely out of the vehicles and on the shoulder of the roadway. There were no injuries and no one required medical attention, police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Hyundai rear-ended the bus, which was carrying students from the school’s volleyball team home from a match with Our Lady of Lourdes School, police said.

Mechanicstown and Maybrook fire departments responded, Orange and Rockland Fire said on Facebook.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, police said. There appears to be no impairment involved.
