Fire Severely Damages Newburgh Building: FD
The cause is still under investigation, according to the fire department.
NEWBURGH, NY — A one-story building at 42 City Terrace sustained severe damage in a Labor Day evening fire.
Four firefighters suffered minor injuries while working to extinguish the blaze, though they refused medical treatment and have fully recovered, according to city Chief of Staff Mike Neppl.
Firefighters were summoned to the scene around 6:59 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, the entire structure was “fully involved in flames,” according to the fire department.

Because of the building’s deteriorated condition, firefighters had to attack the flames from the exterior. Crews cleared the scene about four hours later, around 10:50 p.m.
The fire department posted an overnight fire watch, to make sure flames didn’t reignite, and to prevent any unauthorized entry.

The building’s owner was contacted to secure the property and retain a structural engineer to assess the building's stability, officials said.
The assessor’s office lists the property owner as Nutopia 40-42 City Terrace LLC.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
