Forest Ranger Killed In NY Wild Fire: Officials

A forest ranger was killed while battling a wild fire burning across New Jersey and New York's Hudson Valley area, reports said.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A forest ranger was killed Saturday in a wild fire burning in the Hudson Valley near Shore Road, officials said.

A tree fell on the ranger, killing him, Eastern Dutchess County Fire and Rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

The ranger’s death happened in Greenwood Lake, the Plattekill Fire Department said.

First responders are battling wildfires in New York and New Jersey, including 2,000 acres burning near Greenwood Lake Turnpike and East Shore Road near West Milford, N.J. and in Orange County, according to the Warwick Advertiser.

CPR was performed on the ranger, who was airlifted to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Mid Hudson News reported.
