Goshen Man Admits Raping Minor: DA

Jesus Torres, 32, of Goshen, will be sentenced at the end of August.

GOSHEN, NY — An Orange County man who was accused of having sex with a minor admitted in court Monday what he had done.

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler said that Jesus Torres, 32, of Goshen, pleaded guilty in court to first-degree rape, a felony.

Under the plea agreement announced on the record in Orange County Court, officials said it is anticipated he will be sentenced to 15 years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced Aug. 28.

As part of the sentence, Torres will also be registered as a sex offender under the New York Sex Offender Registration Act.

Prosecutors said he admitted in court that, being 18 years of age or older, he engaged in sexual intercourse with someone who was less than 13 years old.

Hoovler called crimes such as those committed by Torres “unthinkable.”

“I commend the bravery of the survivor in this case, who is forced to live every day with the consequences of these barbaric acts,” he said. “The careful and thorough investigation by law enforcement helped to ensure that this predator is no longer free to victimize others.”

Hoovler said his office will continue to provide support for victims of sexual assault and seek to hold offenders accountable for their actions.
