Spring Valley Man Arrested After Beating Man, Leaving Him To Die: PD

The victim was beaten with a piece of lumber, then left to die in the freezing cold, police say.

SPRING VALLEY, NY — A Spring Valley man was charged with killing another man whose body was discovered in an abandoned commercial property on Wednesday, police said.

Late Wednesday, police arrested Christian Guzman-Loera, 26, of Spring Valley, and charged him with one count of second-degree murder, officials said.

Guzman-Loera struck the victim on the head and body with a piece of lumber and then left him in freezing temperatures, causing his death, police said in a felony complaint.

A police officer on routine patrol was alerted by a pedestrian on Wednesday around 10 a.m. about a body inside property at 10 Centre Street, authorities said.

Police said they went to the site and found an unresponsive man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, as their investigation progressed, it became more apparent the man was a homicide victim. Police have not yet released his identity.

According to police, they believe the attack happened either Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Guzman-Loera, who is without a known address, was arraigned Thursday morning in Spring Valley Justice Court and is currently being held at the Rockland County Jail.
