Hudson Valley Man Arrested For DWI Twice In 2 Hours: NYSP

Police said he was also driving without a license.

NEW PALTZ, NY — Police accused a Hudson Valley man of drunken driving twice in less than two hours.

The New York State Police said, around 2:25 a.m. Sunday, troopers saw a 2013 Audi S4 traveling on Southside Avenue in the town of New Paltz that was in violation of several vehicle and traffic laws.

Police said they stopped the car and identified the driver as Edwin Mendez, 29, of New Paltz.

While talking to him, troopers said they found he didn't have a license and was impaired by alcohol.

He was arrested and refused to take a chemical test, police said.

Mendez was charged with driving while intoxicated and first-degree unlicensed operator, both felonies.

He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of New Paltz Court Aug. 17.

Less than two hours later, at around 4:15 a.m., state police on Route 299 saw the same make and model car in violation of vehicle and traffic laws.

Troopers said they stopped the car and recognized Mendez as the driver once again.

He was observed to be intoxicated, police said, and was once again arrested and charged with felony DWI and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operator.

Mendez was issued another appearance ticket to return to the Town of New Paltz Court Aug. 17.
