The Hudson Valley Offers Bushels Of Apple Picking Opportunities

If you haven't already made an apple-picking plan, it's time to schedule your trip.

MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY—This year's crop of apples is delicious, juicy and just waiting to be picked. If your calendar does not already contain a date to pick your own, pencil one in.

The Hudson Valley has plenty of apple picking locations to choose from and most "pick your own" orchards offer a chance to pick up other farm fresh foods and enjoy some family-style entertainment.

1335 White Hill Road, Yorktown Heights

The farm offers more than a dozen varieties of apples, as well as their own pressed apple cider, freshly baked pies, famous apple cider donuts and gift items. The season starts in August with peaches and runs into December when it's time to hunt for the perfect Christmas trees.

Stuart’s Fruit Farm

The 200-acre family-owned farm offers nine different varieties of apples as well as pumpkins. On weekends you can take a hayride through the orchards. End the visit by enjoying a freshly baked pie or doughnut
with a glass of apple cider.

Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard
130 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem

Visitors can pick McIntosh and Front Hill apples and buy Gala and Ginger Gold. The farm holds a Fall Festival on Saturdays and Sundays through October 29, including Columbus Day Monday. Entertainment for kids include farm animals, bouncy castles and hayrides. You can also buy homemade doughnuts, cider, produce, homemade soup and fresh eggs. Dogs on a leash are welcome.

Rockland:

Dr. Davies Farm

Not only are there 15 varieties of apples at Dr. Davies 35-acre farm, but there are apple themed t-shirts for sale, as well as homemade doughnuts and fresh pressed cider, vegetables and decorative pumpkins. Bring cash as the farm does not accept credit cards. Picking poles are available to rent. Open every day.

The Orchards of Concklin
2 South Mountain Road, Pomona

After picking your own produce at the orchards, you can visit the farm stand for local farm fresh eggs, and taste the fresh pressed apple cider. The bakery offers delicious pies, cookies, and pastries. The Concklin family has owned and farmed the land since the early 18th century.

Mid-Hudson Valley

Meadowbrook Farm

The farm has been a local favorite for over 70 years. They offer a large variety of apples for picking and uses their own apples to make fresh cider. Apple cider doughnuts are made on the premises every day.

Fishkill Farms
9 Fishkill Farm Road, Hopewell Junction

In addition to 40 acres of apples, Fishkill Farms grows peaches, nectarines, blackcurrants, cherries, and pumpkins, all of which are available in season for pick-your-own. You can also buy a variety of
vegetables, grown without pesticides and fertilizers.

Apple Hill Farm

Apple Hill Farm overlooks the picturesque Shawangunk and Catskill Mountains. The apple picking season begins in September with McIntosh, Cortland, Opalescent and Spartan and end the season with Red and Golden Delicious. Take home some of their famous mulled cider.

Hurds Family Farm

At Hurds Family Farm you can pick a variety of apples, including Ginger Gold, Gala, Honeycrisp, Empire, Cortland, Jonagold and Golden Delicious, as well as Fuji, Rome Beauties and the flavorful Ruby Frost.
For kids there's a Big Apple Bounce air pillow that offers a beautiful view of the Mohonk Mountains. Kids can follow one of the two nature trails or take a hayride. For lunch, try the hot dogs and apple cider slushies.

Wilklow Orchards

The sustainable and ecologically minded farm is not only a great place to pick apples but be sure to visit their
bakery. New York State flour and regional butter and eggs are used to make muffins and bread. Fruit from the farm is used to make jam and cider. There are 13 different varieties of apples to pick so call and
find out what’s ripe.

Greig Farm

Visitors can pick blackberries and apples, including Jonamac, Gala and McIntosh,from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week, as well as raspberries and vegetables. Or you can have the farm hand pick them for you. Kids can
feed the gypsy goats behind the barn and Koi fish in the pond.

Rose Hill Farm, 1798

Established in 1798, the farm offers cherries, blueberries, peaches, apples and pumpkins in a peaceful and scenic slice of the Hudson Valley. Ginger Golds and Paula Reds apples are ripe. The farm also offers flowers, fresh eggs, meat and jam.

Lawrence Farms Orchards

The family farm is a family-friendly location with “show chickens,” playful goats, a“Little Village” and hay bale maze. The farm has been doing "pick your own" fruits and vegetables for 30 years.

It's not a pick your own orchard, but if you don't have the time to personally fill a bushel, you can pick up some delicious foods here made with that favorite fall fruit from the orchard market. Cider doughnuts
and raw local honey. Hours: open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day during apple season.
