Jury Convicts Warwick Man Of Driving While Intoxicated
The charges stemmed from a traffic stop in 2022.
WARWICK, NY — A Warwick man who fought a charge of driving while intoxicated was convicted Thursday by a jury in village court after a two-day trial.
Matthew Knight, 31, was arrested June 18, 2022 by the New York State police. Troopers said they had watched him drive over hazard markings on Clinton Avenue early in the morning. His car's license plate light was also out, police alleged.
Police alleged they saw signs of intoxication when they stopped the car. They said Knight told them he was heading home from Bethel and had consumed alcohol. They said Knight agreed to take and subsequently failed a series of roadside sobriety tests. When brought back to the New York State Police barracks, Knight also submitted to a chemical test to determine his blood alcohol content, which, police alleged, was 0.12 percent.

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler thanked the New York State police for their investigation and the arrest.
"We all expect and deserve that our roads are of intoxicated drivers," he said. "This defendant chose to place his interests before those of society and I am grateful that the jury in this case held him responsible for his actions. I commend the dedicated work of the New York State Police who patrol our streets to make sure that they are safe for us all. My Office will continue to prioritize intoxicated and impaired driving cases."
