Kingston Man Accused Of Stealing Recreation, Political Funds

KINGSTON, NY — A Kingston man was accused of stealing recreation and political funds.

The New York State Police in Ulster County Friday arrested Burton Gulnick Jr., 51, of the city of Kingston.

He was the treasurer for both the Hurley Recreation Association and the Friends of Mike Hein Political Committee, police said.

Hein is the former Ulster County executive and commissioner of the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

State police said they received allegations about Gulnick stealing money from the two organizations.

An investigation led to his arrest, and he was charged with second-degree grand larceny and two counts of third-degree grand larceny, scheme to defraud and five counts of falsifying business records.

Gulnick was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
