Kingston Woman Injured In Crash With Town Bucket Truck

Law enforcement said her vehicle spun out on a icy bridge and ended up in the way of oncoming traffic.

NAPANOCH, NY — A Kingston woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Ulster County Wednesday.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were sent to the intersection of routes 209 and 55 in Napanoch for a 911 call reporting a two-vehicle crash with serious injuries.

First responders found one of the drivers, a 45-year-old Kingston woman, unconscious and unresponsive.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 2013 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by the woman was traveling north on Route 209.

As her truck went from the blacktop to the concrete bridge surface in the area, it lost traction due to the iced-over bridge surface.

The truck spun several times, eventually going into the southbound lane where it struck a Town of Wawarsing 2019 Freightliner bucket truck driven by a Wawarsing Highway Department employee. The employee was not injured.

The Kingston woman was taken to Ellenville Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries and was later transferred to Westchester Medical Center.

Ulster County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, Village of Ellenville Police Department, Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad, Napanoch Fire Department, Ellenville Fire Department and the New York State Department of Transportation.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
