Local Man Charged In Beacon Stabbing: Police

The victim was found bleeding in the police department's parking lot early Monday, according to police.

BEACON, NY — A local resident is accused of stabbing a man who was later found bleeding in a vehicle in the police headquarters’ parking lot.

Melvin A. Grant Jr., 26, of Beacon, has been charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said Tuesday.

The stabbing happened in the area of Fishkill Avenue and Main Street Monday morning.

Police found the bleeding victim sitting in a vehicle in their parking lot around 7:15 a.m. The man was able to tell them what happened and where, police said. He was taken to an area hospital and is listed in stable condition, according to police.

Police used their Flock license plate recognition camera system to identify the suspect’s vehicle, which they found parked and unoccupied at Tompkins Terrace apartments.

Police located Grant and took him into custody. Police secured a search warrant for Grant’s residence and seized the weapon used during the attack, according to police.

Grant was arraigned in Beacon City Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center.
