MIDDLETOWN, NY — Two people were injured at the Middletown Galleria Mall on Sunday where police responded to a shots fired report but it is unclear whether they were hit by gunfire, authorities said at a press conference.

Walkill Police Chief Robert Hertman said the two people suffered minor lacerations to the lower extremities of their bodies and are currently being treated at the hospital. The two victims are expected to be okay.

Police responded to the mall after receiving a shots fire report at 3:07 p.m. Officers from the Walkill Police, New York State Police and Orange County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene and locked down the mall, evacuating patrons. Hertman said officers were conducting a second search to make sure there were no additional victims.
