Missing Off-Roader Found Dead After A Week In Sullivan County
About 65 people from local fire departments and search and rescue groups participated in the search each day.

FORESTBURGH, NY — A Sullivan County man who was missing after he went off-roading in the town of Forestburgh was found dead by forest rangers.
Harold Hoyt, 35, of Glen Spey, was reported missing March 31 after he had been off-roading with a friend March 29.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police K-9 units assisted in the search.

The effort to find Hoyt continued until April 7, with up to 65 people from local fire departments, search and rescue groups and volunteers searching each day.
Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers coordinated the search with 26 rangers covering a 1-mile radius from the man’s last known point.

ATVs, UTVs, drones and a state police helicopter were used during the search efforts.
On the morning of April 7, rangers received enhanced cell phone data from the FBI that placed Hoyt southeast of his last known point in an area that had not been searched.
Around 12:40 p.m., a ranger found Hoyt’s body.
His remains were carried out about three-quarters of a mile by search crews for transport to the county coroner.
