Motorcyclist Collides With Horse On NY Road, Both Die: State Police

The motorcycle operator has been identified as a Staatsburg resident, according to police.

CLINTON, NY — A motorcycle rider and a horse both died after the two collided on State Route 9G early Tuesday morning, according to state police.

Craig M. Butler, 48, of Staatsburg, New York, was ejected from his motorcycle in the collision.

Despite life-saving measures, Butler was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The accident happened Tuesday morning around 4:15 a.m. on State Route 9G in the area of North Creek Road, state police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed Butler was traveling northbound on State Route 9G on a 2007 Chappy motorcycle when he collided with the horse.

The horse also succumbed to its injuries from the impact, according to police.

Police said the horse had escaped from a fenced-in area at Black Snake Farm on North Creek Road and wandered into the roadway.
