DUTCHESS COUNTY, NY — A motorcyclist was sentenced Monday to serve 112 days in jail for fleeing an accident scene last year.

Another motorcycle rider was injured in the September 2024 crash, and a responding state trooper was also hurt during the incident, according to the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office.

The fleeing motorcyclist, Steven Hasbrouck, 30, of Middletown, will be on probation for five years after he serves his jail sentence, prosecutors said.

Hasbrouck pleaded guilty in July in Dutchess County Court to leaving the scene of an accident without reporting.

Hasbrouck was operating a motorcycle that collided with another motorcycle on Sept. 8, 2024 on South Avenue in Wappingers Falls, prosecutors said.

The other motorcycle operator suffered six broken ribs, a broken clavicle, and a broken scapula, according to the district attorney’s office.

District Attorney Anthony Parisi said Hasbrouck fled the scene without providing either his license or insurance information to a responding police officer or the other motorcycle operator.

Hasbrouck attempted to pull his motorcycle away from Trooper James Canning during the incident, causing Canning to suffer lacerations to his arm and knee and a sprained wrist, according to the DA’s office.

Parisi said Hasbrouck fled the scene, “after causing a crash that injured another motorist and trying to take his motorcycle from a New York State Trooper performing his lawful duty.”
