“Alfandre Architects has become a local leader in the practice of environmentally responsible design, planning and building, and we congratulate them on the LEED Platinum certification for 231 Main Street,” said Doug Hertz, CEO of Sunrise Solar Solutions. Sunrise Solar Solutions worked closely with architect Rick Alfandre to design and install the photovoltaic (PV) system at the site. “We’ve worked with Alfandre Architects on numerous solar panel projects, so it was a natural fit to work with them on the design of their own office building.”
Sunrise was brought in early, consulting on the project from the siting and design phase through construction and completion. The building is a unique facility in the region. Its PV system is projected to produce approximately 98 percent of the building’s electricity use, saving an estimated $190,000 on electricity costs over the lifetime of the system. From an environmental perspective, the building will generate 960,000 kWh of clean energy, offsetting nearly 1.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2), the equivalent of 543 acres of forest.
