Newburgh Man Accused Of Drunken Driving, Damaging Police Equipment

Police said the man was arrested after being involved in a two-car accident.

NEWBURGH, NY — A city of Newburgh man was accused of drunken driving as well as becoming combative while his arrest was being processed.

The New York State Police said, shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, troopers from the Montgomery barracks were sent to Lake Drive in the city of Newburgh to help City of Newburgh Police with a two-car collision.

Police said the driver of a 2019 Acura, identified as Kaleem T. King, 30, of the city of Newburgh, was traveling west on Lake Drive when he struck another car that was stopped and waiting to make a turn.

While speaking with troopers, it was determined that King was impaired by alcohol.

He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

When being processed, authorities said, King became irate and combative. He refused to take any tests, and he attempted to damage equipment.

He was eventually processed and was additionally charged with obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor.

King was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the City of Newburgh Court July 7.
