He is the second to be sentenced for the crime, as Codett’s co-defendant, Tyreek Shelby, is serving an 11-year prison term.
“Two violent felons have been rightfully held responsible for their acts of violence,” said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.

On July 1, 2023, the two men turned off the power to a local gas station, held up the clerk at gunpoint, then stole money, lotto tickets and cigarettes, prosecutors said.
The robbers ordered the clerk to open an ATM, but he was unable to do so. One of the two robbers discharged the gun into the ground. The clerk was hit in the head during the robbery, according to prosecutors.
A witness called the police. When police arrived, the suspects barricaded themselves in a back room of the gas station before they were taken into custody.
