Officers Of Volunteer Fire Company Stole Funds: NYSP

Police said the two officers took money from the account of the Washington Heights Volunteer Fire Company in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — Two Orange County residents were accused of stealing from a volunteer fire company.

The New York State Police said Gordon Healy, 52, of Wallkill, and Lynn Simpson, 40 from the city of Middletown, were arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor.

The state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation was notified in September about a possible theft from the Washington Heights Volunteer Fire Company in the city of Middletown.

An investigation found that over several months numerous unauthorized transactions from the department’s account were withdrawn totaling more than $17,500.

Police said that Simpson, the financial secretary, and Healey, the vice president of the volunteer fire company removed the funds from the account.

They were arraigned in the Town of Chester Court and released on their own recognizance with a return date to appear in the Town of Wallkill Court.
