Man Arrested​ After Police Chase On Route 17​ Reaches 132 MPH

The 19-year-old Brooklyn man faces several charges including Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree​.

MAMAKATING, NY — A 19-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested Wednesday in Thompson after a police chase that reached a top speed of 132 mph on Route 17.

In a statement, New York State Police said troopers spotted a BMW M3 driving 111 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone around 12:45 p.m. on Route 17.

Police said troopers tried to pull over the driver, Sulejman Muratovic, but he fled west on Route 17. Troopers reported seeing the BMW reach a top speed of 132 mph while driving erratically and passing other vehicles on the shoulder.

The driver eventually pulled over, but when troopers approached his car, he fled again.

Muratovic was found and arrested on Kukas Road in Thompson, and his BMW was towed. Police said he was issued a ticket to appear in court on charges of Endangerment 2nd degree, Unlawful Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree and Reckless Driving, as well as 14 tickets for vehicle and traffic law violations.
