Pedestrian Struck, Killed By SUV In Town Of Poughkeepsie
Dutchess Turnpike was closed for about three hours for a crash reconstruction investigation.
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A car hit and killed a pedestrian Thursday evening in the town of Poughkeepsie near the Eastdale Village Town Center.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling west on Dutchess Turnpike shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday in the area of Darrow Place.
It was being driven by a 60-year-old Pleasant Valley resident, police said.

Initial reports say that a 70-year-old man from the town of Poughkeepsie was struck by the SUV while trying to cross the roadway.
The 70-year-old was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries but was later pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the SUV is cooperating with the investigation.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted at the scene by members of the Arlington Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services (Empress Ambulance).
Dutchess Turnpike was closed until around 10 p.m. while a crash reconstruction investigation was conducted.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident call the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Division at 845-790-4686.
