Police Say Man Burglarized Same Car Wash 10 Times

The first break-ins were reported in April, police said.

GREENPORT, NY — A Hudson Valley man was accused of burglarizing a Columbia County car wash 10 times.

The New York State Police said Joseph W. Shook, 35, of Stockport, was arrested Thursday after an investigation into a burglary of the Cantele Car Wash in Greenport.

Troopers were sent to the car wash initially April 22 for a report of two possible break-ins.

The extensive investigation found Shook burglarized the car wash on 10 separate occasions, stealing more than $4,000 and damaging the vending machine and coin dispenser in the process.

He was arrested and charged with 10 counts of third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree grand larceny, all felonies.

Shook was was arraigned in the Town of Greenport Court and released on his own recognizance to reappear July 25.
