Poughkeepsie Man Accused Of 3 Burglaries

Police said the burglaries happened in less than three weeks.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Poughkeepsie man was arrested for the third time in less than three weeks after being accused of burglarizing businesses.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said Shanteek E. Gaines, 42, of Poughkeepsie, was accused June 25 of burglarizing a town business on South Road.

He was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief, felonies, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. He was released on his own recognizance.

On June 27, police said Gaines was arrested again after being accused of burglarizing a business in the Arlington area of town. He was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, and petit larceny and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.

He was released under the supervision of probation after being arraigned.

On Monday, Poughkeepsie town police responded to a report of a commercial burglary in the Arlington area.

Gaines was involved in an incident Wednesday in the city of Poughkeepsie and town police officers took him into custody on charges related to Monday's burglary.

He was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, felonies, and held for arraignment.

On Thursday, Gaines was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and was sent to the Dutchess County Jail on $25,000 bail, $50,000 bond or $150,000 partially secured bond.
