Poughkeepsie Man Arrested In LI Jewelry Store Break-Ins: Police
The Dutchess County resident is one of four people arrested in three jewelry store burglaries, Nassau County, Long Island, police say.
PLAINVIEW, NY — A Poughkeepsie resident was one of four people arrested in a string of break-ins at jewelry stores on Long Island.
The break-ins happened April 14 at The Jewelry Studio and Solomon Fine Jewelers in Plainview, as well as May 12 at Sophia Jewelry in Levittown, Nassau County police said Friday.
Duran Smith, 23, and Alexandre Manigat, both of Brooklyn, were previously taken into custody and appeared in court May 12, police said. Shawn Gibson Phillips, 27, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested June 14, and appeared in court a day later. On Thursday, Quayshaun Canady, 31, of Queens, was arrested. He appeared in court that day.

During the investigation, law enforcement discovered that Smith and Manigat had a loaded handgun with a 15-round magazine, leading to additional charges, police said.
Smith faces charges of burglary, grand larceny and criminal weapon possession.

Manigat faces the same charges, as well as resisting arrest.
Phillips and Canady both face charges of burglary and grand larceny.
