Poughkeepsie Woman Killed In 2-Car Accident In Highland

One other person was taken to the hospital with internal injuries.

LLOYD, NY — A Poughkeepsie woman was killed in a two-car accident on Route 9W in Highland Sunday.

The Town of Lloyd Police Department said the accident happened around 4:40 a.m. Sunday on Route 9W near Chapel Hill Road in Highland.

Authorities said a 21-year-old Poughkeepsie man was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer on Route 9W when he crossed into the northbound lane striking a 2016 Chevy Cruze which was going north on Route 9W.

The driver of the Chevy was 50-year-old Poughkeepsie man. He was taken by New Paltz Rescue Squad to Vassar Brothers Medical Center for internal injuries.

The passenger in the Chevy — a 52-year-old Poughkeepsie woman — was taken by Mobile Life Ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital where she died of her injuries.

Police said the driver of the Ford was the only occupant and was not injured.

Names are being withheld pending family notification, authorities.

Lloyd police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, the New York State Police Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Highland Fire Department, Mobile Ambulance and New Paltz Rescue Squad.

Police said the accident is still under investigation.
