Prostitution Ring Operators Arrested In Middletown: Police

No-knock search warrants were executed at two locations in the city of Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — Two city of Middletown residents were accused of operating a prostitution ring.

The City of Middletown Police Department said, around 2 p.m. Dec. 6, no-knock search warrants were executed at 74 Genung St. and 31 Genung St. in the city of Middletown.

The targets of the search warrants — Carlos Perez-Hernandez, 46, and Bertha Correales, 73, both of the city of Middletown — were part of a year-and-a-half investigation into an extensive prostitution ring operating in the city.

During the execution of the search warrants, officers from the City of Middletown Police Department recovered ledgers detailing the schedule of prostitution activity, evidence of an accounting system for prostitution records, a large supply of contraceptives and $3,089 in United States currency.

Perez-Hernandez and Correales were found in the residence and illegal business at 74 Genung St. They were placed under arrest and charged with one count of third-degree promoting prostitution, a felony, and one count of permitting prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Two other people were found in the same location and charged with misdemeanor prostitution.

Middletown police executed the warrants along with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange County Child Abuse Unit. The police were assisted in the investigation by the FBI-New York Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force and staff from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
