Repeat Offender Burgled Barber Shop, Apartment Building Garage

The lifelong Ulster County resident had 30 misdemeanor convictions and five prior felony convictions since 1998, according to the DA.

KINGSTON, NY — A Hudson Valley repeat offender got the maximum sentence for a pair of burglaries in Ulster County.

The Ulster County District Attorney's Office said that 47-year-old Antoine Scott, of Saugerties, pleaded guilty to third degree burglary and was sentenced on Jan. 16 to a sentence of 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison.

On July 1, around 1 a.m., Scott entered a barber shop on Broadway in the City of Kingston, and stole hair clippers and miscellaneous DeWalt power tools, with a total value of $1,150.

On July 2, he entered a parking garage on Cedar Street and stole a Stihl powerhead, a string trimmer attachment, a hedge trimmer attachment, a leaf blower, and a Green Works power washer, with a total value $2,164.05.

Kingston police arrested Scott on July 26, after an investigation that included a review of video surveillance from the area. He gave a full confession.

The district attorney's office noted that Scott is a lifelong Ulster County resident with 30 misdemeanor convictions and five prior felony convictions since 1998.

"This defendant has been given numerous opportunities for rehabilitation; but it seems he feels immune to our laws and the rights of the community," District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji said. "In these most recent crimes he preyed on a local small business and a residential building that serves the elderly and working families in Kingston. For 26 years he has not relented. The people of Ulster County and our criminal justice apparatus need a break from him."
