Results In For Poughkeepsie Democratic Mayoral Primary
Incumbent Mayor Marc Nelson was challenged by Yvonne Flowers and Wesley J. Lee to appear on the Democratic Party line.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Registered Democrats in the city of Poughkeepsie went to the polls Tuesday to decide whether the incumbent mayor would get to run on the Democratic Party line in November to keep the job.
According to unofficial results, incumbent Mayor Marc Nelson was defeated by Yvonne Flowers. Coming in second was Wesley J. Lee.
With all election districts reporting, Flowers received 40.3 percent of the vote. Lee received 36.24 percent and Nelson received 23.46 percent.

Flowers was born and raised in Poughkeepsie. She is currently serving as councilwoman for Ward 5 and has worked at Dutchess Community College as its grants and contracts finance officer.
Lee is a history professor at Dutchess Community College. The long-time city resident works with at-risk youth through a nonprofit. He was for four years executive director of Greenburgh’s housing authority.

Nelson is currently the city of Poughkeepsie mayor. He was seeking election to his first four-year term. Previously, he was the city administrator, after serving as the Hartford, Connecticut, municipal tax collector.
If Flowers is certified the winner, she will face Republican Anthony LaRocca in the November general election.
